I don’t care what they are called, but I am so excited that Series 2 of the Micro Force figures have shown up.  Originally, this line came out years ago under the name Fighter Pods. After about a 5 year absence, Hasbro brought it back under the new name Micro Force.  As excited as I was about Micro Force Series 1, they were all reissues of previous figures.

Series 2, however, features new figures of characters from The Force Awakens and Rogue One. Words cannot express how happy I am.  I will be featuring these new figures in separate posts to give them the attention they deserve.

We’ll start the series with the hero of the new trilogy, Rey!

MF Rey

Rey is seen here as she appeared in The Force Awakens after finding Luke’s lightsaber.  It’s a very strong pose; Rey is ready for action!

Here is the new Rey with the custom version I made.

Stay tuned for more Micro Force!

Hot Wheels Star Wars Battle Rollers

I usually see what new toys are coming out thanks to the power of the internet, but I completely missed the new Hot Wheels Battle Rollers until they caught my eye in the Hot Wheels section of the toy aisle.

The figure is roughly the same size as the new Micro Force figures (or the old Fighter Pods figures, however you want to look at it).  I love how it looks like Luke is sitting in a version of the X-Wing that you could ride for a quarter in front of a grocery store.

The ship is mostly die-cast and has a ball bearing in the bottom (hence the “Roller” part of the name).

The line also has Rey in the Millennium Falcon, Boba Fett in Slave-1, The Emperor in an Imperial Shuttle, and Darth Vader in his Tie Fighter.  A version of Vader with his light saber comes with a Darth Vader head carrying case (similar to the carrying case from the 80’s).

There are also two two-packs.  One has another version of the same Luke ship (but with a lightsaber) with the saber-less version of Darth Vader. The other pack comes with Rey and the Falcon along with a First Order Tie Fighter and Pilot.

Just follow the link here to see them all.

I also heard from Yakface (the website, not the alien) that series 2 will feature the following:

Kylo Ren /TIE Silencer
Darth Maul/Sith Infiltrator
TIE Fighter Pilot/TIE Fighter
Poe Dameron/X-Wing Fighter
Yoda/Jedi Starfighter
“Rio Monkey Quad Hauler”

I’m not sure what a Rio Monkey Quad Hauler is (maybe the “space monkey” Bistan from Rogue One?) but I am looking forward to find out. And it looks like we will get a Battle Roller version of Poe Dameron before we get a Micro Force version!

I’m so excited about this line that I already have a want list (this is for you Hasbro!)
Wedge Antilles in either an X-Wing or a snowspeeder
K-2SO in a U-Wing
Kit Fisto in a Jedi starfighter
Greedo in a…okay, I have no idea what he’d be driving/flying, but I trust your creativity Hasbro!

I will definitely be collecting more from this line.  Thanks Hasbro!

Star Wars Micro Force

A few years back, Disney bought Lucasfilm and announced that there would be new Star Wars movies.  A little while later, on their 50th anniversary, the Monkees released a new (and really good) album, Good Times.  Now, Hasbro has brought back Fighter Pods, my favorite toy line ever, under the new name Micro Force.  Life is good.

The first series (available now) is made of previously released figures.  I was happy to see that they included C-3PO, since I hadn’t picked one up the first time around.

There are paint differences between the Fighter Pod and Micro Force versions of the figures (especially in the case of Ahsoka).  While I am excited about these figures, I’m practically ecstatic about the completely new figures coming in wave 2, which feature Rey, Jyn Erso, Finn, BB-8, Kylo Ren, Captain Phasma, and a Death Trooper.  I look forward to seeing if these figures (and future waves) are previewed at next month’s Toy Fair. Thanks again Hasbro!!

For those who keep track of such things, Threepio and Han came in one pack, and Ahsoka and the Stormtrooper came in another.

2017 Year In Review

As the year comes to a close, here’s a quick look back at the Fighter Pod customs created in the last 12 months.  The last year featured everything from Star Wars to the Monkees to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to a British 50’s priest.  With Fighter Pods now coming back in the newly christened Micro Force line, I can’t wait to see what’s coming in 2018!

As we wait to see what 2018 brings, here’s one last new figure for this year. Rebel pilots have always been a favorite of mine, and I wanted one of the Blue Squadron pilots from Rogue One.  This character is Jaldine Gerams, aka Blue Three, who led the pilots in the battle over Scarif.

Blue Three is made from a Zam Wessel Fighter Pod with clay for the helmet and electric tape for the straps.  The hose was kindly donated by a Black Manta Heroclix figure.

Star Wars The Last Jedi Micro Force (Fighter Pods): BB-9E

So today’s the big day and The Last Jedi finally opens! Does Luke take the lightsaber from Rey and go back to fight the First Order? Does Finn survive?  How many more X-Wings does Poe get, and will they have custom paint jobs too? What in the world is a Porg?  All these questions will be answered as well as…who is BB-9E?

As popular as BB-8 became after The Force Awakens, it was inevitable that more of these rolling droids would show up, and that not all of them would be so friendly.

I know nothing about BB-9E other than he is supposedly bad (Director Rian Johnson referred to him as BB-H8 during the filming). But, since I had made a BB-8, I had to make his counterpart (arch-nemesis?) as well. BB-9E was made from clay with the tip of a toothpick for the antenna.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Micro Force (Fighter Pods) Executioner Trooper

So, never dreaming that Hasbro would actually start making Fighter Pods (now called Micro Force) again, I started making a few figures from the new movie, The Last Jedi.  Although I obviously haven’t seen the movie yet, a few designs peaked my interest. The first is the Executioner Trooper.

I realize this is just a modified First Order Stormtrooper design, but it still intrigued me, so I had to make one.

Since I have made a few First Order Stormtroopers before, I wanted this new guy to have a different pose.  I used a Clone Trooper base with a Stormtrooper head with a new hand to hold the weapon.  The weapon is made out of clay. The energy spikes were made with super glue gel with a light blue paint wash.
