NEW FIGHTER PODS…I mean NEW MICRO FORCE!

I don’t care what they are called, but I am so excited that Series 2 of the Micro Force figures have shown up.  Originally, this line came out years ago under the name Fighter Pods. After about a 5 year absence, Hasbro brought it back under the new name Micro Force.  As excited as I was about Micro Force Series 1, they were all reissues of previous figures.

Series 2, however, features new figures of characters from The Force Awakens and Rogue One. Words cannot express how happy I am.  I will be featuring these new figures in separate posts to give them the attention they deserve.

We’ll start the series with the hero of the new trilogy, Rey!

Rey is seen here as she appeared in The Force Awakens after finding Luke’s lightsaber.  It’s a very strong pose; Rey is ready for action!

Here is the new Rey with the custom version I made.

Stay tuned for more Micro Force!

Hot Wheels Star Wars Battle Rollers

I usually see what new toys are coming out thanks to the power of the internet, but I completely missed the new Hot Wheels Battle Rollers until they caught my eye in the Hot Wheels section of the toy aisle.

BattleRollersXWing2

The figure is roughly the same size as the new Micro Force figures (or the old Fighter Pods figures, however you want to look at it).  I love how it looks like Luke is sitting in a version of the X-Wing that you could ride for a quarter in front of a grocery store.

BattleRollersXWing

The ship is mostly die-cast and has a ball bearing in the bottom (hence the “Roller” part of the name).

The line also has Rey in the Millennium Falcon, Boba Fett in Slave-1, The Emperor in an Imperial Shuttle, and Darth Vader in his Tie Fighter.  A version of Vader with his light saber comes with a Darth Vader head carrying case (similar to the carrying case from the 80’s).

There are also two two-packs.  One has another version of the same Luke ship (but with a lightsaber) with the saber-less version of Darth Vader. The other pack comes with Rey and the Falcon along with a First Order Tie Fighter and Pilot.

Just follow the link here to see them all.

UPCOMING SHIPS

I also heard from Yakface (the website, not the alien) that series 2 will feature the following:

Kylo Ren /TIE Silencer
Darth Maul/Sith Infiltrator
TIE Fighter Pilot/TIE Fighter
Poe Dameron/X-Wing Fighter
Yoda/Jedi Starfighter
C-3PO/Landspeeder
R2-D2/X-wing
BB-8/”Zulu”
“Rio Monkey Quad Hauler”

I’m not sure what a Rio Monkey Quad Hauler is (maybe the “space monkey” Bistan from Rogue One?) but I am looking forward to find out. And it looks like we will get a Battle Roller version of Poe Dameron before we get a Micro Force version!

WANT LIST

I’m so excited about this line that I already have a want list (this is for you Hasbro!)
Wedge Antilles in either an X-Wing or a snowspeeder
K-2SO in a U-Wing
Kit Fisto in a Jedi starfighter
Greedo in a…okay, I have no idea what he’d be driving/flying, but I trust your creativity Hasbro!

I will definitely be collecting more from this line.  Thanks Hasbro!

Star Wars Micro Force

A few years back, Disney bought Lucasfilm and announced that there would be new Star Wars movies.  A little while later, on their 50th anniversary, the Monkees released a new (and really good) album, Good Times.  Now, Hasbro has brought back Fighter Pods, my favorite toy line ever, under the new name Micro Force.  Life is good.

The first series (available now) is made of previously released figures.  I was happy to see that they included C-3PO, since I hadn’t picked one up the first time around.

There are paint differences between the Fighter Pod and Micro Force versions of the figures (especially in the case of Ahsoka).  While I am excited about these figures, I’m practically ecstatic about the completely new figures coming in wave 2, which feature Rey, Jyn Erso, Finn, BB-8, Kylo Ren, Captain Phasma, and a Death Trooper.  I look forward to seeing if these figures (and future waves) are previewed at next month’s Toy Fair. Thanks again Hasbro!!

For those who keep track of such things, Threepio and Han came in one pack, and Ahsoka and the Stormtrooper came in another.

Star Wars The Last Jedi Micro Force (Fighter Pods): BB-9E

So today’s the big day and The Last Jedi finally opens! Does Luke take the lightsaber from Rey and go back to fight the First Order? Does Finn survive?  How many more X-Wings does Poe get, and will they have custom paint jobs too? What in the world is a Porg?  All these questions will be answered as well as…who is BB-9E?

SWBBs

As popular as BB-8 became after The Force Awakens, it was inevitable that more of these rolling droids would show up, and that not all of them would be so friendly.

I know nothing about BB-9E other than he is supposedly bad (Director Rian Johnson referred to him as BB-H8 during the filming). But, since I had made a BB-8, I had to make his counterpart (arch-nemesis?) as well. BB-9E was made from clay with the tip of a toothpick for the antenna.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Micro Force (Fighter Pods) Executioner Trooper

So, never dreaming that Hasbro would actually start making Fighter Pods (now called Micro Force) again, I started making a few figures from the new movie, The Last Jedi.  Although I obviously haven’t seen the movie yet, a few designs peaked my interest. The first is the Executioner Trooper.

SWExecutioner

I realize this is just a modified First Order Stormtrooper design, but it still intrigued me, so I had to make one.

Since I have made a few First Order Stormtroopers before, I wanted this new guy to have a different pose.  I used a Clone Trooper base with a Stormtrooper head with a new hand to hold the weapon.  The weapon is made out of clay. The energy spikes were made with super glue gel with a light blue paint wash.

Hasbro, Here Are Some Micro Force Ideas

Hasbro is bringing back Fighter Pods with the new name Micro Force.  Since I am the internet’s leading Fighter Pod customizer (largely because I’m probably the internet’s only Fighter Pod, excuse me, Micro Force customizer), here’s all of my posted Micro Force customs in one spot.  (And yes, I did say “posted”.  I do have a few surprises left for this year).

Again, thanks to Hasbro and Andy Ochiltree, Hasbro’s senior manager of Global Brand Marketing, for bringing this line back.  I can’t say how excited I am to get new figures in this style!

Here’s a group shot:

Here are some bigger images that are a little better to see.  The first group is figures from the Prequel era up through the original trilogy.

StarWarsFPSoFar_A

Back row left to right: Two ARC troopers, Goofy as Darth Vader, Dak Ralter, Chirrut Imwe

Front row left to right: Clone Trooper Able (from the Dark Horse Star Wars comics), a Rodian Jedi, C-3PO, and Hoth Luke

And here are figures from the current trilogy:

StarWarsFPSoFar_B

Back row left to right: Poe Dameron, Snap Wexley, Captain Phasma, and a bunch of First Order Stormtroopers (can’t have just one).

Front row left to right: Luke (based on Phil Noto fan art), C-3PO, BB-8, Rey, Finn, Chewie, Han, and Finn as FN-2187.

Now if we just had some figures from The Last Jedi.  Did I say something about not posting all the figures I’ve done so far…

FIGHTER PODS ARE BACK AS MICRO FORCE!

I loved Fighter Pods when they came out years ago.  Finally, there was a Star Wars line I could actually afford to buy and store tons and tons of characters.  Then, about 5 years ago, after four series of figures, the line ended.  I’ve been making custom Fighter Pods ever since.

So I was amazed (and am still in a little disbelief) when I read an article on starwars.com about a new toy line called Micro Force and realized…these are Fighter Pods!! The first wave, due in December, features blind bags with 2 previously released figures.  But the second wave has all new figures from Rogue One and The Force Awakens along with some old figures!!!!!  Thank you Hasbro!!!!!!!!!!

NewMicroForce

I can’t believe they are back!  I am so excited I can barely contain myself.  My brain has already started a list of characters I want them to make (Old Luke, Poe, Chirrut, K-2SO, Snap Wexley, Unkar Plutt, Jess Pava…).

This go around, the series consists solely of blind bags, and the figure count is lower.  Hopefully, these changes will allow the line to last a long time.

I will definitely be picking up the first series, if for no other reason that to help ensure the second series comes out.  Besides, my parts reserves for customs is getting dangerously low, and I never did pick up a C-3PO.

Woooooooooooooooo-hoooooooooooooooo!
