It’s been awhile since I bought new Heroclix. I still love the figures, but I had most of the characters I wanted. But when this set, which also features clix from various DC animated series, was annoumced, I was interested. And when they made Nightwing, I had to pick it up.
I also picked up Commissioner Barbara Gordon from Batman Beyond as well as a Wild West Justice Riders version of Martian Manhunter from a previous set.
The set also features characters with their original look and the redesigned fourth season look (my preferred look). Two-Face, complete with flipping coin, only comes in the 4th season look, looks amazing. Mr. Freeze, comes in both versions. While the repaint doesn’t quite capture the 4th season look, it still looks pretty cool.
Update: I just realized that I said the Mr. Freeze clix was cool. While I’m not above bad jokes, this one was unintended. 🙂
Remember that Star Wars story where a bunch of clone troopers had to do a blind jump into hyperspace seconds before their ship would have been destroyed in battle? The ship crashed on a primitive world in uncharted territory. Only two clones, Jai and Clai, survived. As they tried to settle into their new home, they discovered that the locals were terrorized by a gang called the C’v’dish. Unable to sit by while innocents suffered, Jai and Clai salvaged what gear they could a to defend their new home.
You don’t remember that story? That’s because I made it up. I was thinking that I would like to do Lone Ranger Micro Force figures, and I thought, why not make them clone troopers? So I kitbashed two figures from various clone and Stormtrooper, and came up with designs that echoed the original Lone Ranger and Tonto costumes. The names Jai and Clai were inspired by the actors Jay Silverheels and Clayton Moore, who played Tonto and the Line Ranger. The C’v’dish are based on their enemy, Butch Cavendish.
I found this great Darkwing Duck figure at Target today with a display of new Duck Tales toys. I haven’t seen the new versiom, but I have heard good things about it and enjoyed the original Disney afternoon shows.
When I saw these blind box toys, I looked to see if there was a Darkwing Duck. I used to have a small DD figurine that came in a box of Frosted Flakes, and its one of the few toys I regret giving away over the years. So I was excited to see that DD was in this line. However, with a $5 price tag and a large number of characters in this set, I decided the odds were too low that I would pull one. Then I noticed this…
The packaging (built to look like a stack of coins) has a see through window! It was easy to look through the packs and spot DD’s large hat. So I grabbed one, and I know have Darkwing Duck back in my collection.
I’ve said before that I am the internet’s leading Fighter Pod/Micro Force customizer. I claimed this title because I seemed to be the ONLY Fighter Pod/Micro Force customizer. But no more! WOMPS reader bearfacedgeeks sent me pictures of their great customs along with descriptions!
Three different Ashokas – Rebels, later Clone Wars and the original
I liked that they did Clone Wars Anakin and Episode 3 Obi-Wan but not visa versa so I swapped heads on the two figures and painted them.
My 3 Rebels figures
C-3PO and R2-D2
Thanks for sharing bearfacedgeeks! Great job!
I picked up two new Star Wars Battle Rollers, Rio and Poe Cameron. I bet these two would have entertaining banter.
Jedi News has released a press image of the Series 5 packaging along with an actual figure shot of Enfys Nest from the new Solo movie!
I’m especially looking forward to Maz and Enfys Nest. The “thumbs-up” BB-8 looks cute too. I’m wondering if the Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma figures will be new sculpts or reprints of series 2.
I still haven’t found Series 3 and 4 yet, but I’m sure they will arrive in my area soon. I can’t believe how many new characters we are getting in a line that’s been dormant for five years! Thanks Hasbro!
I’ve spent a lot of time on this blog discussing what new figures are coming and to where, but I never finished reviewing the current series! So, in the spirit of being grateful for what you have, here we go.
Series 2 is the first series to give us new figures, and features figures from Rogue One and The Force Awakens.
Jyn Erso is one of my favorite figures in this set, and her enemy the Death Trooper is a close second. Both figures have a ton of detail despite their small size. I especially like the mix of gloss and matte paints on the Trooper.
This mix of gloss and matte paints is also used on Kylo Ren. Now that we have Ren and Captain Phasma (and Snoke in an upcoming set) we really need a basic First Order Stormtrooper.
I couldn’t be happier with this set and the fact that Hasbro keeps making more of these figures. I am anxiously awaiting the new sets!
